Hearing Assessments

Hearing testing using headphones

What will happen?

Your diagnostic hearing assessment consists of the following tests. Your audiologist will be able to fully understand your hearing needs and walk you through every step of the process thanks to this thorough evaluation.

Video Otoscopy

Your audiologist will use a video otoscope, a precise camera, to examine your ear canal. This aids in ruling out any physical anomalies or accumulation of wax that might be the source of hearing loss.

Air Conduction Testing

Your audiologist will place headphones over your ears and ask you to press a button when you hear a beep. This test measures your hearing thresholds at a range of different pitches and is used to determine the extent and pattern of your hearing loss.

Bone Conduction Testing

Your audiologist will place a vibrating box behind your ear using a headband. This uses the bones in your head to transmit sound directly to your inner ear. The findings will enable us to identify the kind of hearing loss you have and suggest the best course of action for treatment.

Speech in Noise Testing

You will be asked to repeat a few sentences while there is background noise by your audiologist. We can determine how well you can process speech using the results of this test. It tells us how your hearing loss affects you and how much you will benefit from wearing hearing aids, which makes it an essential component of the full diagnostic hearing assessment.

Hearing Needs Assessment

In order to determine your hearing needs, your audiologist will ask you a number of questions about your lifestyle and how you experience your hearing. The audiologist can then advise you on the best course of action to enhance your quality of life and hearing using this information.

Other Tests

Depending on what is clinically required for each patient, your audiologist might need to conduct additional tests.

Next Steps

After the evaluation is finished, we will discuss the findings and suggest whether a medical practitioner should be consulted for any additional testing or treatment. If the tests identify a hearing loss for which you might be a good candidate for hearing aids, your audiologist will work with you to select the best model to fit your needs in terms of technology, lifestyle, and price range.
